Arrowhead Game Studios has just dropped a bombshell announcement: Helldivers 2's file size has been slashed by a whopping 85%, and they're inviting players to test the new 'slim version' in beta. The developers have been hard at work, and their efforts are paying off. In October, they promised to tackle the file size, and now they've delivered, reducing the installation size by an incredible 3 quarters. Imagine the relief for those with limited storage space!
Helldivers 2's File Size Transformation:
The new blog post on Steam reveals that the Helldivers 2 team, in partnership with Nixxes, has achieved their goal of reducing the PC installation size while adding fresh content. All data has been de-duplicated, resulting in a remarkable transformation.
The new file size for Helldivers 2 on PC is now a mere 23GB, a massive cut from the previous 154GB, reducing the installation size by a staggering 131GB (85%). The 'Slim version' has undergone rigorous internal testing and is now available as a public technical beta for early adopters to try out.
The Future of Helldivers 2:
Once the public beta concludes without any issues, the slim version will become the default for Helldivers 2. But fear not, the legacy version will still be accessible as an opt-in option, allowing players to self-troubleshoot any lingering issues that might have slipped through the cracks during testing.
