Even the most polished professionals have their off days, and for Today show host Craig Melvin, one on-air blunder nearly landed him in hot water! During a recent 'Ask Me Anything' segment with colleagues Savannah Guthrie, Carson Daly, and guest Andy Cohen, the topic of embarrassing on-air moments arose, leading Craig to confess a particularly cringe-worthy incident.
He recounted a time when he was still working weekends and misread information about a food recall. Instead of stating that a particular brand's food had made eight people sick, he mistakenly said it had killed them – a crucial difference that could have led to legal trouble! Andy Cohen's reaction perfectly captured the moment: "That's bad."
Carson Daly, never one to be outdone, shared his own mortifying experience. It involved a tongue twister that went horribly wrong. While reading a story about Leonardo DiCaprio, he stumbled over the name, hilariously saying "Leonardo DiCrapio." He confessed that even now, seeing Leonardo's name in the teleprompter makes his heart race!
Savannah Guthrie's most memorable moment came during an interview with Khloé Kardashian. She directly addressed rumors about Khloé's parentage, asking about the speculation that she was O.J. Simpson's child. Savannah admitted feeling pressured by producers to ask the question, but in the end, she had to ask it. Khloé, however, handled the situation with grace, simply replying, "Nothing to it."
But here's where it gets controversial... Craig also shared two of his most cherished career memories. One was the opportunity to interview his childhood idol, Michael Jordan. The other was covering the tragic 2015 church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, a deeply personal event for the South Carolina native.
Craig's journey with Today began in 2018 as a news anchor. He then became a co-host before eventually taking on the anchor role in January.
